According to a senior official, the department will request pricing for administrative allocation from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) once it has identified spectrum for private networks.
Trai has identified certain frequencies that can be set aside for these networks, while DoT wants to investigate more bands with less commercial potential.
The official explained, "The idea is not to reserve spectrum (for captive networks) that is in great demand and must be auctioned.Trai has recommended carving out at least 40 MHz blocks in the 3700-3800 MHz and 4800-4990 MHz bands for captive private networks in its recommendations for the 5G auction.
